Hotham does it backwards. The village sits up on the ridge, so you click in at your door and ski down to the lifts — the highest lifted village in the country, with the mountains dropping away on either side.
That height is the whole story. Hotham holds cold, dry snow, and the terrain runs hard to intermediate and advanced: named chutes, steep lines through the snow gums, and descents that keep going long after most resorts have run out of hill.
